  • Mids at the Army/Navy Game, Dec. 1, 2001
photos and story by Barbara R Craig

A picture perfect day, except for the outcome! No one could believe it was December in Philadelphia, short sleeve shirts, some people in shorts, people were even getting sunburns and tans. Security was very tight, but extremely well organized. The march-ons were wonderful, families and friends so proud to see their mids and cadets out there. So many pre-game activities went on that the time flew by from the 0900 march-on to the 1130 game time.

These included flyovers, the Leap-frogs and Black Knights-elite sky-jumping teams, the coin toss done by President Bush, and of course the traditional prisoner exchange. The crowd roared and cheered for everyone and everything. It was a great day. So much military pageantry and good-spirited rivalry. In the evening, Philadelphia was full of mids, cadets, their families and friends enjoying the sites and being together. What a wonderful weekend!
