    I-day - Class of '05
Photos by Karen Grimm and story by Terrie Morrell
I-day, Hot, incredibly hot! Fortunately during one of the forays to the Mid store, my husband noticed the sunburn I was developing and suggested the purchase of an umbrella. It came in really handy especially when we were waiting at the back of Alumni Hall hoping for a glimpse of our Plebe. Every now and then a breeze would come up and with the shade provided, it was just a tad bearable. Of course, it worked really well with the typical afternoon thunderstorm too.

A sea of students in "white works" poured into T-Court to officially become Midshipmen. The swearing in ceremony was short and blurred. Few parents could locate their own Mid. A four jet flyover culminated the event. Then students were dismissed to Stribling Walk to meet their folks for the final 15 minutes. In the crowd it would have been impossible to find each other without the alphabetical letters located down the walk.
We came provisioned with all kinds of snacks, but our Mid mainly wanted the cold drinks, she was too stressed to eat anything. Lots of food and cold drinks were available to the Plebe's without attending families. Already stories were forthcoming with wide eyed explanations of regulations and rules.

Cell phones abounded for last minute calls home. Nervous watch checking was evident as the minutes ticked by. Then they marched away and disappeared into Bancroft Hall. Leaving without them was a difficulty and a joy at the same time. This was an emotional weekend for families and students alike.
