Pirates of Penzance
Photos and story by Barbara R Craig
|
The
Combined Glee Club production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of
Penzance in February 2002 was stellar! Decked out in colorful, elaborate
costumes, and long curly-haired wigs, midshipmen enthralled the audiences
with their wonderful singing and acting talents. They were accompanied
by an outstanding pit orchestra mainly composed of midshipmen on a
wide variety of instruments, supplemented by a few local musicians
and Navy Band members. The enthusiasm of |
the
musicians and singers was evident in every moment of this marvelously
performed production, and echoed in the standing ovations of the sold
out crowds. It is hard to believe that these tremendously talented
singers and instrumentalists are scholar-athletes soon to be Naval
Officers, and not music or drama majors! |
